Written by Rachel Burger of Rescueber Transport NFP It all began in May of 2018. There was a beautiful Mastiff boy at CRISP (Chicagoland Rescue Intervention Support Program) that was ready for his freedom ride after being surrendered by his owner. A volunteer asked if I could provide that ride and added after I agreed to foster him overnight until his long term foster got home the next day.
Written by Melanie Hofmann with lots of help from Doug’s mom, Mary Last month, the Real Dog Moms of Chicago set off on another sold out Canine Cruise with Mercury Cruises around the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. After hosting 6 of these cruise events with proceeds benefiting different local rescues, we know to expect a fun afternoon full of great people, smiling pups and amazing skyline photo ops. September’s cruise was a bit different though as we had a very special guest with us this time around.
We collected the information for our explanation of Diwali from Dogster.com Diwali, one of the great celebrations in the Hindu calendar, is a five-day autumn festival generally known as the festival of lights. Each day has its own focus, and specific observances vary from one denomination of Hinduism to another. Regardless of regional and denominational differences, Diwali is a period of gift-giving, storytelling, and recognition of the relationships humans have with all things.

INTRODUCTION BY JES HILTNER
Doing good while having fun is our thing. So it should come as no surprise why we INSTANTLY fell in love with Second City Canine Rescue (SCCR) earlier this year. I digress. At the end of last year I finally scored a date with someone I’d stalked via the internet for MONTHS (Her name is Emily, and she one of their biggest supporters, see photo below. I’m obsessed with her dogs) and we talked about all things rescue and in that conversation we decided to host an event for her beloved rescue; our first ever Mother’s Day Mini Photo Sessions. What blew my mind was that their intake manager, Jennifer: a Full Time Volunteer; a Full Time Wedding Photographer; Full Time Mother of 3 small humans, one dog and one cat; and a foster mom to dogs and cats, offered to photographer the event for $FREE.99! To date we’d always paid photographers (albeit heavily discounted from their normal rates) so this was the most incredible and generous offer. Everyone has purchased insurance at some point, but very few people understand how it works. This is no surprise as it can be confusing, so when people hear of insurance for animals they wonder: “What is pet insurance and why would I ever need it?”
